Like other sundown towns across the US, through a culture of fear, violence, and intimidation, ASHLAND excluded African Americans and other racial minorities from residing in the city.
The legacy of such segregation continues to influence the demographics of our valley and the quality of life for our non-white neighbors.
We endeavor to alter this narrative so that the SUN may RISE equally on all residents. We trust that each of our actions toward awareness and respect will ripple out, creating a more just and fair community where all who live and pass through ASHLAND feel a true sense of belonging.
